Bean2me’s 1% for the Planet Commitment – What Does It Really Mean?

In a world where environmental and social challenges are multiplying, companies have a major role to play. At Bean2me, we firmly believe that no action is too small when it comes to the planet. That’s why we joined the 1% for the Planet movement—an initiative that gives meaning to every cup of coffee you drink.

1% for the Planet: an initiative born from the need to act

The 1% for the Planet movement was founded in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard (founder of Patagonia) and Craig Mathews. Their idea was simple yet powerful: to encourage businesses to donate 1% of their annual revenue to organizations working to protect the environment.

Today, more than 6,000 members in 90 countries—both businesses and individuals—have chosen to make a concrete commitment. Over 500 million dollars have already been raised and redistributed to environmental nonprofits around the world. Unlike vague promises of neutrality or carbon offsets, this model focuses on direct, measurable, and traceable impact.

Why did Bean2me choose to join 1% for the Planet?

At Bean2me, we deliver coffee to workplaces every day. And like you, we know that every consumption choice has an impact. So rather than staying on the sidelines, we decided to take action.

We joined the 1% for the Planet movement because we share a common vision: a world where businesses take responsibility. For us, that means bringing purpose into our daily actions and offering our clients a coffee solution that is as environmentally respectful as possible.

What does that mean in practice? Every bag of Chronic coffee beans you order helps fund environmental and social projects right here in Switzerland.

1% of our coffee sales donated – but not just to anyone

Unlike some models where funds are donated to an intermediary platform before being redistributed, we’ve chosen to donate directly. Every year, we give 1% of the revenue generated from Chronic coffee to two trusted Swiss organizations:

WWF Switzerland, to support a nature conservation project in the Alps.
Terre des Hommes Switzerland, which works to uphold children’s rights and promote sustainable development in vulnerable regions.

No intermediaries. No uncertainty. We know exactly where our contribution goes—and we can measure its real impact.

WWF Switzerland: Protecting the Alps, a Natural Treasure at Risk

Each year, two-thirds of the amount we donate through our 1% for the Planet commitment goes directly to WWF Switzerland. This choice is no coincidence—we want to help preserve the Swiss Alps, a unique ecosystem that is now under serious threat.

Did you know that the Alps are home to nearly 30,000 animal and plant species? Climate change, urbanization, and intensive tourism are putting this balance at risk. That’s why we support WWF’s “Living Alps” program, which works to:

• Protect natural habitats and ecological corridors (for species like lynx, wolves, and ibex)
• Encourage more sustainable mountain farming
• Restore wetlands and protective forests that are essential to the region

By supporting this project, we help preserve a precious natural heritage—right here in Switzerland. And we know exactly how our support is used, with no middlemen involved.

Terre des Hommes Switzerland: Acting for Future Generations

Sustainable development cannot ignore people. That’s why the remaining one-third of our contribution goes to Terre des Hommes Switzerland, an organization that works to protect children, ensure access to education, and promote equitable development—particularly in Africa and South America.

The supported projects focus on:

• Educating young girls
• Raising awareness of children’s rights
• Promoting sustainable farming practices in rural communities

A tangible impact, driven by committed teams and long-term engagement on the ground.

It’s “just one percent,” but it’s 100% impact

Some might say that one percent isn’t much. But when added together, these small percentages can make a big difference. And if every company did just that, the impact would already be significant.

At Bean2me, that 1% is a real effort—because we don’t benefit from the economies of scale that big industrial coffee players enjoy. Staying competitive while staying true to our values is a delicate balance. But we’ve chosen to put meaning into every cup, even if it affects our margins.

It’s also a matter of consistency: with our fossil-free deliveries (cargo bikes, electric vehicles), our B Corp certification, our local roasting, and our zero-waste coffee service thanks to our reusable buckets… everything we do is designed to reduce our footprint and maximize our positive impact.

We’d love to do even more. But we’re already doing everything we can—and above all, we do it sincerely. Because we believe that when many people act together, these small efforts become a real movement.

And what can you do at your level?

By choosing Bean2me and our Chronic coffee beans for your company, you’re not just improving your office coffee solution—you’re directly supporting sustainable, Swiss-based projects. You too become an active part of the change.

It’s simple: every cup of coffee becomes one more gesture for the planet. And if every company made that choice? Just imagine the cumulative impact.
